PROMISQUES: F^g m^ster flex (the master diss)

Diss track, Notorious industries, Promisques, The Master

Promisques rages hard with “F^g m^ster flex (The master diss). Lyrics cut to the very bone for he holds nothing back. Layer upon layer adds to the mixture of the sound. Full of a tremendous physicality the song is a pure assault on the sense. Bass rumbles with such a fury. Drill, trap, industrial, all of this is filtered through Promisques’ unique approach in a way that feels outright satisfying to behold. Beats have a driving presence to it, for his words have a tremendous power to it.

Right from the beginning there is an ominous tone that takes shape. From there where the vocals enter it really burns on through. Every word hit to the core, for there is a strong rebelliousness to the entirety of the track, an unwilling to deal. Done with such aggressiveness and urgency, he keeps the sound tight, economical, raw. Nods to some of Death Grips’ rabid animalistic energy comes into play, for there is that same sense of chaos that allows it. Things are kept rather nimble, for the song has a short extremity to it. Percussive elements enter into the fray with a wild-eyed determination, for the song’s devolution into some fantastic insults feels outright glorious. Honestly, the lyrics are the main draw for he whittles his insults into short stabs.

“F^g m^ster flex (The master diss)” shows off the exquisite versatility and range of Promisques in creating a threatening, outright defiant, piece of old-school hip-hop.

Promisques – Lockdown Mixtape

Justyn Brodsky, Lockdown mixtape, Notorious industries, Promisques

Promisques offers a rapid-fire, wild-eyed flow on the fevered energy of “Lockdown Mixtape”. A unique tension exists within the sound. Beats burst at the seams for he jam-packs the sound with a slew of different styles. Trap, hip-hop, EDM, pop, noise, these all come into the fray resulting in a kaleidoscopic approach. Completely free, there is almost a Frank Zappa-esque humor to the lyricism which indulges in some rather taut wordplay. Pace is the trick here for no song overstays its welcome, he keeps things nimble and unexpected.

The warped strings of “Wiley flow” starts things off with gusto. Upon the bass entering into the mix with just the right degree of threat. From there the aura gains a cryptic tone, a bit on the demented and twisted side of things. Rhythms are slowed down on the dub bass of “if i want to”. Staccato choir is a nice touch, and helps to add to the surreal quality of the piece. Nice woozy melody is woven within “wicked like that” as it lunges ahead in a dazed, hazy way. Usage of whistling gives “is what it is” a neat elastic quality, with the eclectic percussive work being surprisingly delightful. Neat sampling works wonders on the rather luxurious lush bounce of “Feeling good” which is drenched in sunlight. Hyperkinetic to its core is the blurred rush of “Bout my bizz”.

With the unhinged “Lockdown Mixtape” Promisques delivers a wide trip of a collection one that is a virtual funhouse of mirrors.
